How did we get our start?
It all started with the TubShroom Drain Protector Hair Catcher. The options that were available to us at the store weren't cutting it, so we went to the drawing board and looked to mother nature for inspiration.
What problem are we solving?
Quite simply, we wanted to eliminate the need for harmful chemicals in our drains and homes. Millions of gallons of drain cleaners are being used to clear clogged drains. Most importantly, we want to put a stop to the manufacture of acid-based chemical cleaners that pollute our waters.

A plumber visit can be costly, and drain snakes and liquid drain cleaners aren’t always effective. The TubShroom Toss Disposable Hair Strainer is made to work on virtually any bathtub drain. Simply remove any stopper that may already be in place and stick a single waterproof degradable drain strainer in place, which will prevent loose hairs from entering deep into the drain. Hair is the number one cause of clogged drains because of the way long strands clump together deep inside the drain--forming a messy block that water can't get through. With this 21 pack, you can avoid touching the nasty hair by simiply lifting the strainer off the drain and tossing it out in the trash along with all the collected hair. Works great with both human and pet hair! Directions: First, clean and completely dry the drain surface. Then, remove any drain stopper that may be in place before putting the Toss strainer inside the drain. After several weeks, the strainer may be full, so you then have to lift the strainer off the drain for quick disposal.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will the white TubShroom Toss strainer stand out or look obvious in my clean white bathtub?
The white color is specifically chosen to blend with most standard bathtub finishes. Because the mesh sits nearly flush with the drain opening, most users find it virtually disappears into the tub rather than looking like a visible accessory.
Does the disposable strainer make my bathroom look cluttered or cheap?
No. The TubShroom Toss uses a low-profile, fine-mesh disc that lays flat across the drain. Once installed, it reads as a subtle drain cover rather than a noticeable gadget, which is why many guests never even realize one is in place.
Is there a color option that matches brushed nickel, chrome, or matte black fixtures?
The TubShroom Toss is available in White and Blue. White is the most popular choice for blending into classic and modern tub designs, while Blue can be a fun accent in playful or coastal-themed bathrooms.
Can I leave the strainer in place when guests use the shower without it looking awkward?
Yes. Many customers specifically choose the Toss for guest bathrooms because it sits so flat and unobtrusive that visitors typically assume it is part of the original drain. There is no bulky cap or visible hardware to draw attention.
Will the adhesive backing leave a mark on my nice tub surface?
The waterproof adhesive is designed to hold under running water but release cleanly when you are ready to replace the strainer. In normal use it does not stain or mark porcelain, acrylic, or fiberglass finishes.
I'm redoing my bathroom in a spa-like style. Will this look out of place?
Not at all. The neutral white mesh and minimalist profile actually complement spa-style bathrooms where clean lines and uncluttered surfaces matter most. Many users in renovated spaces prefer it over visible silicone or metal strainers.
How often do I need to swap it out to keep my bathroom looking fresh?
For best appearance and performance, replace the TubShroom Toss every 3 to 4 weeks. The 21-pack covers about a full year, so you can stay on a consistent rotation without ever having a tired-looking strainer in the tub.
Does the mesh collect mildew and ruin the look of my tub over time?
Because the TubShroom Toss is designed for short-cycle disposable use and is made of hard plastic mesh rather than rubber or silicone, it is far less prone to holding onto mildew, grime, and discoloration than reusable alternatives.
Compared to a chrome hair catcher, does the TubShroom Toss blend in better?
In most white or light-colored tubs, yes. A chrome strainer stands out as a fixture, while the Toss reads as part of the drain. That is one of the main reasons people choose it for design-conscious bathrooms.
Is this better looking than the original TubShroom mushroom design?
Many buyers in design-focused homes prefer the Toss precisely because it does not look like a 'gadget' sticking out of the drain. Guests rarely notice it, which is a frequent compliment in reviews.
Will the strainer clash with patterned or colored tile?
Because the mesh sits inside the drain opening rather than on the tile surface, it does not interfere with your tile pattern at all. The White option tends to recede visually in almost any tile design.
How visible is the strainer when you step into a clean, well-styled shower?
From a standing position, the Toss is barely noticeable. It sits inside or just above the drain, so the visual focus of the shower remains on the tile, fixtures, and finishes you carefully chose.
I worry a hair catcher will cheapen my renovated bathroom. Should I be concerned?
The TubShroom Toss was designed for exactly this concern. Its flush, low-profile look and neutral color were chosen to disappear into upscale bathroom designs rather than compete with them.
Is the packaging itself something I can leave in a linen closet without it looking messy?
Yes. The 21-pack comes in a compact box that stores neatly on a shelf or in a drawer. You can keep it tucked away and only pull out one strainer at a time when you need a replacement.
Does the mesh turn yellow over time and discolor the tub look?
Because the recommended use cycle is 3 to 4 weeks, the strainer is replaced long before any yellowing or staining can develop. This is one of the main advantages over longer-life silicone strainers.
Will this look okay in a guest bathroom where I care about presentation?
Absolutely. Many customers use the Toss specifically in guest bathrooms because it is so discreet. Visitors almost never comment on it, and the clean white finish reads as polished and intentional.
How do I install the TubShroom Toss disposable drain strainer?
Make sure the drain surface is clean and completely dry. Peel the protective backing off the adhesive ring, center the strainer over the drain opening, and press firmly for a few seconds. The waterproof adhesive will hold under running water for the full 3 to 4 week cycle.
How often should I replace the TubShroom Toss?
Most users replace it every 3 to 4 weeks, depending on how much hair is being caught. When the mesh starts to look full or water begins to drain more slowly, lift the entire strainer out by the tab and toss it in the trash.
Can I reuse the strainer instead of throwing it away?
Yes. While it is designed for convenient single-use disposal, you can pull the collected hair off, rinse the mesh, and reinstall it if you prefer. Many users get weeks or even months out of a single strainer this way.
Will the TubShroom Toss fit my bathtub drain?
It is designed to fit virtually any standard bathtub drain. The mesh and adhesive ring flex slightly to accommodate common drain sizes, including 1.5 inch drains in older homes that often reject thicker plastic strainers.
Can I use this in my sink drain as well as the bathtub?
Yes. Many customers install the Toss upside down in bathroom or utility sink drains to act as a debris catcher. It works well for catching toothpaste, jewelry-stopper debris, lint from facecloths, and pet hair during sink baths.
What comes in the box when I order the 21-pack?
You receive 21 individually backed disposable drain strainers, enough for approximately one year of monthly replacements plus a few extras. No additional tools, adhesives, or accessories are required.
Is the strainer safe for septic systems and older plumbing?
Yes. The Toss is purely mechanical and contains no chemicals, so it is safe for septic tanks, PVC, cast iron, and older copper pipes. In fact, many users with old houses report that it dramatically reduces the need for chemical or mechanical drain treatments.
Will the adhesive damage my tub or leave residue behind?
The waterproof adhesive is engineered to hold during use and release cleanly when you pull the strainer off. It does not stain or permanently mark porcelain, acrylic, enamel, or fiberglass finishes when used as directed.
What is the difference between the TubShroom Toss and the original TubShroom?
The original TubShroom is a reusable mushroom-shaped strainer that sits inside the drain and has to be cleaned regularly. The TubShroom Toss is a flat, disposable mesh disc that is replaced every few weeks for zero-contact cleanup. Many users prefer the Toss for its convenience and lower-profile look.
