Frequently Asked Questions
Will the creamy lather actually feel calming during my nighttime routine or will it feel harsh?
The foaming cream texture is designed to lather gently without stripping, so most users describe it as a soothing, hydrating cleanse that fits comfortably into a wind-down skincare ritual rather than an aggressive treatment.
Does the hyaluronic acid really keep my skin hydrated so I do not wake up with tightness?
Yes, hyaluronic acid is included specifically to attract and hold moisture during cleansing, which helps reduce the tight, dry feeling that often comes with benzoyl peroxide washes the morning after.
Can the ceramides help repair the moisture barrier I have damaged from past acne products?
The formula includes three essential ceramides (1, 3, and 6-II) that mimic those found naturally in healthy skin, helping restore and maintain a calmer barrier over time when used consistently.
Is this wash fragrance-free enough to use as part of a sensory-friendly self-care routine?
It is formulated without fragrance, which makes it a strong fit for users who are sensitive to scent or who prefer a neutral, non-overpowering cleanse during their evening ritual.
Will niacinamide actually help calm the redness that comes with my hormonal breakouts?
Niacinamide is well known for helping soothe visible redness and support an even-looking skin tone, so regular twice-daily use can help reduce the angry, inflamed look of active blemishes.
I want a daily cleanser that supports my overall skin wellness, not just spot treatment. Is this right?
Because it combines maximum-strength acne treatment with hydrating and barrier-supporting ingredients, it works well as a daily preventive cleanser for acne-prone skin rather than only a spot fix.
Can I use this as my only cleanser in a minimalist skincare routine?
For many users with mild to moderate acne, this single wash can serve as the full cleansing step both morning and night, simplifying the routine to a treatment and a moisturizer.
Is this wash gentle enough that I can use it every day without irritating my skin?
The creamy, fragrance-free formula is designed for twice-daily use, and the ceramides and hyaluronic acid help offset the typical drying effects of benzoyl peroxide when used as directed.
How does this compare to a regular hydrating cleanser if my main goal is wellness and balance?
A standard hydrating cleanser will not treat active acne, whereas this product delivers the same gentle feel while actively clearing and preventing breakouts, so you get wellness and treatment in one step.
I have tried medicated washes that left my skin feeling raw. Is this one actually different?
Most users who have experienced irritation from traditional benzoyl peroxide washes report that the added hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, and ceramides make this formula noticeably more comfortable and less drying.
Will the maximum 10% benzoyl peroxide make my skin peel or flake during my routine?
While 10% is the strongest OTC concentration, the hydrating ingredients are included specifically to minimize peeling and flaking, though new users should still start slowly with once-daily use to assess tolerance.
Is the creamy texture really worth it, or is a gel wash just as effective for clearing acne?
Gel washes can be effective but tend to be more stripping, while this creamy formula is engineered to deliver the same 10% benzoyl peroxide with added hydration, which many users find easier to stick with long term.
I am nervous about adding a new active to my routine. Could this break me out at first?
It is non-comedogenic and free of pore-clogging ingredients, so it should not cause new breakouts, though some users experience a short adjustment period as the skin acclimates to benzoyl peroxide.
How do I use this wash for the best results on my face?
Wet the affected area, apply a small amount, gently massage into the skin for one to two minutes to allow the benzoyl peroxide to work, then rinse thoroughly. Use once or twice daily as tolerated, and follow with a non-comedogenic moisturizer.
How should I apply this to my back, chest, and shoulders in the shower?
Apply the foaming cream to the affected body areas, lather with hands or a soft washcloth, leave it on the skin for one to two minutes to allow the active ingredient to penetrate, then rinse completely. Use daily for best results.
Can I use this every day, or should I start slowly?
New users should start with once-daily use for the first week to assess skin tolerance, then increase to twice daily if the skin is responding well and not becoming overly dry or irritated.
Is this safe to use along with my regular moisturizer and sunscreen?
Yes, apply the wash first, then follow with a gentle, non-comedogenic moisturizer and a broad-spectrum sunscreen in the morning to protect treated skin from UV sensitivity.
Can I use this product at the same time as retinol or other strong actives?
Combining multiple strong acne actives can increase irritation, so it is generally recommended to alternate days or use one in the morning and the other at night, and to consult a dermatologist for personalized advice.
What is included in the box when I order this product?
The package contains one 5 oz bottle of CeraVe Acne Foaming Cream Wash with the active 10% benzoyl peroxide formula. No additional accessories are required for use, though a washcloth or hands are helpful for body application.
Will benzoyl peroxide bleach my towels, clothing, or pillowcases?
Yes, benzoyl peroxide can cause bleaching of colored fabrics, so it is recommended to rinse the skin and any surfaces thoroughly and to use white or older towels and linens during treatment.
What should I do if my skin becomes dry, red, or peeling?
Reduce use to once daily or every other day, apply a gentle, fragrance-free moisturizer, and avoid other harsh skincare products. If irritation persists or worsens, discontinue use and consult a dermatologist.
What is the difference between a benzoyl peroxide wash and a salicylic acid wash?
Benzoyl peroxide kills acne-causing bacteria and reduces inflammation, making it effective for inflammatory acne like pimples and pustules, while salicylic acid exfoliates inside the pores and is often preferred for blackheads and whiteheads. Many acne-prone users benefit from alternating or combining both under professional guidance.
